California Paid Sick Leave If you or a family member are sick or for preventive care, including when civil authorities recommend quarantine, isolation, or stay-at-home The leave you have accumulated or your employer has provided to you under the Paid Sick Leave law.

California’s paid sick leave law allows employees to take sick leave for their own health condition or the health condition of a family member, including preventative treatment. “Family member” is defined broadly and includes a spouse, domestic partner, parent, child, parent-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, and sibling. If the employee has paid sick leave available, the employer must provide such leave and compensate the employee under California paid sick leave laws.
